Coastal detached public houses
(Hakozaki Shirahama area)
設計:アーキエイド(担当 アトリエ・ワン)/2014.2完成
Architects: Archi Aid, Atelier Bow-Wow Completion of construction: Feb 2014
Atelier Bow-Wow, in charge of the detached public houses, is a member of “ArchiAid,” a network of architects that volunteer for recovery services. They held workshops and had discussions with local citizens, creating the layout plan that respects the local landscape of the fishery village.
Hakozaki Shirahama is a fishery village with a good natural harbor, where the public detached public houses were planned to be built.
The local economy depends on the fishing industry, and most of the inhabitants spend their entire lives being affected by the local industry. A serious challenge was how to harmonize the local community based on the fishery with the new area of public detached houses when redesigning the landscape.
Each house has a tiled roof which usually costs high, as well as a “high-side light” window on the roof which offers access to daily sunlight and makes a living room more relaxing and comfortable. Architects successfully keep the building costs low. Also, houses face each other and share the open space in front of each house with neighbors, leading to more community interaction.
